Uganda Water Project

Recently "Shears for His Glory" raised about $1251.00 for putting in water wells for an area in the Moroto part of Uganda.  Over a vast portion of Uganda is facing water problems despite a third of it's area having large bodies of water.  Such as Lake Victoria and being part of the upper sources for the Nile River.

The problem has been an extended drought resulting in drier areas, enlarging.  Those area with water, have a clean drinking water problem.  Top this off with what are our basic hygiene habits are missing.

Cesil Raphino (President/CEO) presented our contributions to Johnathan Duarte (President - GR41) initially to assist in drilling wells in Uganda.  GR41 went to Uganda last March and investigated the water situation.  The objective was to asses the problem and make recommendations.

Then the goal was focused on providing closer water sources on a neutral ground so all in the local community could benefit without someone holding the power.  For often the women would walk distances from 6-20+ kilometers (4-12+ miles) one way for water.  For some families this was proving to be an unbearable sacrifice in marital relations (suspicions of husbands).

Ben Dutton in GR41 made an assessment that it would be better to:
  1. Perform maintenance on exist wells, and get the broken wells fixed.  Cost here is $300 vs about $7000 for a new well.
  2. Provide filters on wells to provide clean drinking water - outside of having water, having clean water is the next greatest need.
  3. Teach some basic sanitation/hygiene skills to the Ugandans to maintaining keeping clean water and reducing diseases.
This would bring some wells back on line that are down due to broken pieces.  The overall approach of Global Rescue for One, of neutral ground and investigating several options has proved valuable.  Thus our contributions can be maximized  and more effective.

Shears for His Glory is glad to contribute to this and will keep our contributers and followers current on what is happening with the Uganda water project.
